Fall is a wonderful time of year for portrait photography. The leaves changing colors provide a beautiful backdrop for any type of shoot you may want to do. One of the questions I get asked the most by my clients after a session is booked is what to wear. With every shoot I do I send out a wardrobe guide to help my clients along. Here are some tips for any upcoming shoots you may have during the Autumn season.
- Don’t be afraid of color – This time of year provides us with wonderful colors in our scenery so why not incorporate that into your wardrobe as well? Rich, deep jewel tones are perfect for your photos. Shades of blue, green and orange work well during this time of year. And don’t be afraid to mix things up a bit. Long gone are the days of having to be too matchy-matchy. Of course you want to coordinate, but you don’t want to all have on the same color.
- Accessorize – Fall is the right time to start pulling out those adorable hats and scarves and including them in your session. It’s a fun way to dress up your outfit and to add a bit of your personality through your wardrobe. Just remember that simple is always best. While accessories are a great addition to any outfit you don’t want it to take away from the star of the shoot…you!
- Layering – This can add pops of color to your look as well as texture. And the great part is that it provides you with more than one look if you decide you’d like to remove your cardigan or jacket during some of the shots.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to choose your outfit – It’s always best to plan ahead so you can try things on and see how you look ahead of time and to make sure you’re comfortable. If your wardrobe choice isn’t comfortable it will show in the photos. Planning ahead will allow you to not stress out too much prior to your shoot and you can come in knowing you look and feel good!
