Wise + Zandra Say I Do | Charlotte, NC

I met Zandra in the winter of 2016 where we made plans for me to shoot her upcoming Charlotte, NC nuptials to Wise.  She was such a bubbly and bright spirit and we connected instantly.  Over the course of the following months we worked together to plan the perfect engagement session.  That session garnered me my first feature by Munaluchi Bridal Magazine and is to date my favorite session.

Their wedding was no different.  Their ceremony was held in a beautiful church filled with a beautiful white backdrop and gorgeous vases filled with tealights.  It was classic and romantic, just like the two of them.

After the ceremony we headed to the Maggiano’s for the reception.  The food was delicious, the DJ cranked out great music and all of the guests seemed to be having a wonderful time chatting and dancing!  The icing on the cake for me had to be when Zandra (who is quite the songbird!) serenaded her new husband with a beautiful song.  And while all of the guests were mesmerized by her act of love, no one seemed more impressed than Wise.  I wish them both many, many years of love and happiness and I know that as long as they keep God at the center of their marriage they will live happily ever after.

Teresa Jennette | Fashion Photography

Teresa Jennette

Fashion photography is something I’ve loved for years.  Having a background in this industry as well as having worked in the Fashion + Beauty department at Essence Magazine I was afforded the opportunity to watch amazing photographers and models work on high fashion shoots.  And when I first decided to get behind the lens of a camera myself I thought I wanted to get into fashion photography.  And then portraits came along and changed everything.  I fell in love with capturing every day people, getting to know them and their stories and being able to create memories for them.  So, over time, the idea of doing fashion photography fell by the wayside.  Until the amazingly talented fashion designer, Teresa Jennette, reached out to me.

Teresa is an up and coming designer out of Lancaster, SC which is also my hometown.  She saw some of my work online and reached out to me regarding her collection.  To my surprise she just began sewing 6 months prior to our session.  Yes, you read that right…6 months!  Her work is beyond amazing for having just learned how to work a sewing machine this year.  She’s worked in the industry as a stylist for some time, but this year she finally realized her dream was to create designs herself and so she went for it.  Our session took place early on a Sunday morning in the city where Teresa lives.  With the help of our gorgeous model, Chantel, we made some serious black girl magic!  I am beyond excited to see what the future holds for Teresa and Teresa Jennette (the name of her label).  Her first collection just graced the runway during Charlotte Fashion Week just a couple of days ago and from here she has nowhere to go, but up!  Definitely check her and her collection out!

Kellen + Hannah | Rock Hill Session

Kellen + Hannah | Rock Hill, SC Portrait Session

Last month I had the pleasure of working with two of the most adorable, funny and well-behaved children I’ve come across.  Kellen + Hannah’s portrait session was originally set for July, but due to unforeseen circumstances their session was pushed back a month.  We still went with their original location, however had the original session date worked out the field would have been filled with bright green cornfields and blooming sunflowers.  Unfortunately the sun flowers were burned to a crisp (a pretty interesting sight to see) and the corn fields were fading as well.  But I wouldn’t change our date for anything!  The beautiful shades of beige, brown and green that filled the fields ended up being the perfect backdrop.  Sometimes you have to look beyond what you initially view as mundane or uninteresting and see the beauty in it.  The muted tones allowed Kellen + Hannah to pop in front of the lens.  They were the primary focus and it worked out beautifully!

Kellen was an absolute natural in front of the camera, constantly looking over his shoulder and wondering which scary creature from his Goosebumps book would be making an appearance during our session.  He had fun posing for the camera and telling me all about his interests.  Hannah was quite the opposite.  She didn’t care too much for what I was doing, but allowed me to shoot around her, capturing some wonderful candid moments.

The two of them worked so well together and you could see that Kellen is definitely protective of his little sister.  Hannah, although very independent, did allow herself to be snuggled by her brother as she planted a big wet one right on his cheek!  I had such a great time working with this family and meeting these two.  I know these will be memories that mom and dad will treasure for many years to come.

2016 Senior Rep: William G.

2016 Senior Rep: William G.

Meet my second (and final!) 2016-2017 DBP Senior, and first ever male, Rep, William!  This year I actually received a couple of male entries and I’m so excited that more guys are getting into the game.  It used to be the case that teen males hated having their photos taken and to some degree that’s probably still true, but William is definitely defying the odds.  He’s a natural in front of the lens and I had such a great time working with him and his mom for his downtown Fort Mill, SC session.

William attends Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte, NC and his mother, Monique, affectionately refers to him as President Obama, due to how busy his schedule is.  And I got a chance to see that first hand!  When meeting William and Monique for their consultation at Starbuck’s we worked extra hard to come up with a date that didn’t interfere with his jam packed schedule.  We settled on an early Sunday morning session in downtown Fort Mill which gave us plenty of time to get our shots in before this sleepy little town began to wake.  We started the day on a red train which worked perfectly with his yellow polo, then moved into the city with a colorful mural as our backdrop.  His wardrobe change, showed why he’s known for his style of dress.  Looking ever so dapper we capped off his session against brick buildings and even ‘caught’ the train!

William was inducted as a YBM Ambassador and considers it to be one of the accomplishments he’s most proud of and I know with the goals he’s set for himself and his future that he will be a welcome asset as a DBP Senior Rep.  I look forward to seeing what’s in store for his future and watching him reach higher heights!
