QPNC Meet Up!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that I am a part of an organization known as The Queen Photographers, which is “an organization and true community of women of color photographers.  With chapters active in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina, the purpose of this group is to provide a network and internal resource so that female photographers of color, of any level of expertise can unite under their craft of photography.”  Since I live right on the SC/NC border I have been chosen as the Area Leader for QP for the Rock Hill/Charlotte area.  Our first QPNC meet up took place in early November and I was lucky enough to be a part of it.  It’s always great catching up with my fellow QPSC members and I was excited about meeting some of the NC ladies.

We started our morning off chatting over coffee, desserts and breakfast sandwiches at Amelie’s French Bakery in the historic NoDa area of Charlotte.  It has such an eclectic vibe about it that it can’t help but to get your creative juices flowing.  After parting ways with one of our NC queens, we took to the streets of NoDa for a headshot swap.  Although the NoDa (which stands for North Davidson Street) area isn’t very large, there are some great backdrops that photographers would love!  Lots of colorful walls, unique shops, and an old movie theater are just a few things you’ll see in this quaint little neighborhood.  It was great snapping shots for each lady as well as catching some great behind the scenes shots.  I’m already anticipating our next gathering with hopefully even more ladies from the NC area!  If you’re a woman of color photographer that is looking for a tribe to call your own and you live in the NC/SC/GA area I encourage you to check out The Queen Photographers.  I promise you won’t regret it!
