The Doering Family | Rock Hill, SC

Extended family sessions are always a lot of fun.  I know that when kids grow up, move away and begin to create families of their own it can be difficult to round everyone up for what is most likely a long overdue family session, but you have to make it a priority.  Think of the albums your grandchildren and great grandchildren would never get to experience if you didn’t make a family session a priority at least once every few years.  It’s a wonderful way to document your family history as well as just bonding together during the time of your session.

It was such a joy for me to meet and work with the Doering family for their extended family session this summer.  Mom, Kathy, made plans while her children, their spouses and granddaughter were in town visiting to get everyone together to make some wonderful, heartfelt memories.  I’m so glad they reached out to me to capture this time in their lives and to be a part of this special day.

We had a great time during our early morning weekend session in beautiful Glencairn Garden.  I hope these will be memories they all will look back on fondly.  And if you and and your family are overdue for a family portrait session I would love to work with you!  Contact me and let me know what the session you envision looks like and together we can bring everyone together and make it happen!

Lifestyle Branding Session | Columbia, SC

Over the last couple of years I’ve gotten to know Bianca of The Crawford Austin Agency extremely well.  We’ve done a number of branding shoots together and each one is better than the last.  She’s the type of client a photographer dreams of working with.  She’s a ball of energy and always fun to be around and she’s always up for trying out new things to give her brand visuals she can use across the board from her website to her varying social media accounts.  When she first came to me with the idea of doing a lifestyle session that would take place in and outside of her home I was immediately excited!  Being in her home before I knew she had the perfect setup to make an in home session work.  Neutral tones with pops of color and lots of natural light had me eager and ready to get to work.  Her session began in the living room, made it’s way into the kitchen where we poured up some wine, headed upstairs into her guest bedroom and finally finishing in her bedroom where she relaxes and winds down after a long day of work.

The second half of her session took us to downtown Columbia and USC’s Horseshoe, where we both attended.  She had the most adorable pink tulle skirt created specifically for this session and it added a whimsical element that showed off her beaming personality so well.  We finally finished things off with a few lifestyle workout shots.  Bianca has been putting in major work in the gym lately and she knows how important it is to relieve stress and keep yourself balanced.  Bianca is a perfect example of an entrepreneur that is creating a visual brand to connect with her audience.  She has set herself up for a couple of  years worth of content and it all revolves around her and her brand.  No stock photography required!  If you are looking to brand yourself in a visual format and create content for your social media accounts I would love to hear from you!  Hop on over to my contact page and send me a note.

If you haven’t been following my social media accounts in the last week or you don’t subscribe to my monthly newsletter then you may not have heard the news.  I’m excited to announce a new venture for Denise Benson Photography.  Last week I opened my own stock photography gallery!  The motto of this new venture is: Styled stock images created for the entrepreneur.  I created this site because I saw a need from other entrepreneurs to have fresh, updated images for their websites, social media accounts and more.  Not everyone has the means or time to hire a photographer when wanting to share images on their Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc accounts so The DBP Stock Gallery will allow bloggers, content creators, etc to purchase images to utilize across the board for various branding needs.  These images can help keep your social media accounts up to date, they can be used on your marketing materials for a fresh, new look or can be shared on your website for beautiful branding visuals.  However you choose to use them is up to you!  DBP is slowly making the transition to be a more comprehensive branding site where I not only shoot branding clients for updated headshots, but where I also work with upcoming photographers to help them build their brand through my coaching program and now giving other business owners a means to keep their visuals updated with fresh content and not a lot of work on their part.  The site contains everything from flatlays, to food photography to holiday images and more!  I’d love to hear what you think of the site and my new venture so make sure to leave a comment below.  And keep coming back to see what’s new in the shop as images are constantly being added.  See you there!

Celebrating 40! | Rock Hill, SC

A couple of months ago I got the chance to do a double header for Jessica’s upcoming 40th birthday.  She had a grand vision in mind when celebrating this year of experiences so when she emailed me regarding her session I was super excited to work with her!  I had admired her work from afar (hello fellow Facebook stalkers!) for a while.  She’s a short hairstylist guru and owner of the Pynk Butterfly Salon located in Columbia, SC and having a short coif myself I was immediately drawn to her work.  We spoke on the phone shortly after she initially emailed me and our personalities just clicked.  She told me she’d be the easiest client I’d ever work with and she was right!  The day of her session the sky was overcast and I was praying for the rain to hold off until after our session was done.  Of course, it didn’t.  Since she had already come to Rock Hill, SC from out of town she was up for continuing in the rain.  We ventured to my favorite plot of land that has sprawling trees and we began the first part of her session.  She looked simply regal and effortlessly elegant in her purple gown.  The setting couldn’t have fit her any better!  The rain picked up as we ended the first portion of the session and unfortunately became too much for us to continue.  So we decided to reschedule her second half for a little later and I’m so glad we did!

Part two of her session took place in Old Town, Rock Hill, SC.  It was early on a Sunday morning and the sleepy Main Street area was fairly quiet which is how I like it.  No bystanders watching and waiting to see what will happen next.  The weather was perfect and Jessica stunned in her two looks for the day!  After sharing her sneak peeks I had people asking where she got her shoes and dress from.  She came to slay 40 and succeeded to the fullest!  I’m so excited to share that Jessica will be a part of my own dream team for my upcoming branding session this fall and I can’t wait to see what magic she works on me!

The Crowning Lupus Campaign

My Soror Jade Nealious is a warrior and advocate for Lupus Awareness for much of her adult life.  We first worked together on her Crowning Lupus campaign in the very early stages of my photography business.  She’s one of the people that had faith in me in the beginning and has been a huge supporter ever since.  When she came to me regarding her 30 for 30 project I was excited at the opportunity to work with her again and give her some fresh, updated photos for her website and social media campaign.

The 30 For 30 Campaign took place during Jade’s birth month, June.  It was all about celebrating her birthday with the cause that is the closest to her heart.  Per her website she says this about the campaign: “In turning 30, I believe it is important to continue investing in my calling: service. Service has become my passion through my organization, Crowning Lupus. To invest in my passion, I want to bless more lupus survivors and the students we serve through our programs & scholarships in my “30 Days of Giving Campaign” for the month of June.”  She asked friends, family and supporters of Crowning Lupus to donate $30 in celebration of her birthday.  Her heart for giving and helping those that live with lupus on a daily basis is so big and I’m so glad that I had an opportunity to help her with this cause.  While her 30th birthday celebration may be over, the cause certainly is not!  I encourage you to check out her website and if you feel moved to do so please donate to her cause today.  Any amount would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to seeing what’s to come for Crowning Lupus and Jade in the years to ahead.  I know she will continue to fight for this cause and do everything in her power to help those living with it as well.
