Whimsy Luxxe Branding Session

Branding sessions are some of my all time favorite sessions to work on.  Not only do I get to do what I love, but in the process I get to help another person to build their brand.

I met Ashley, the owner of Whimsy Luxxe – a skirt co., earlier this year during a styled shoot that was put together in Charleston, SC for the ladies of QPSC.  I had already been a fan of her work so it was great getting the chance to meet and finally work with her.  After the Charleston trip had passed she indicated wanting updated headshots and branding photos and we worked up a date and time for her to come to Rock Hill, SC.  It was a hot and humid Saturday afternoon and even though the clouds were rolling in the rain held off for us.

We began her session in one of her trademark tulle skirts.  This part of her session spoke to the whimsical side of her Whimsy Luxxe brand.  We had fun dancing and playing with confetti.  Ashley is so laid back and has such a vibrant personality that she made my job ever so easy.

For her second look, the luxurious side of her brand, we moved into downtown Rock Hill.  A grand church and vibrant alleyway made for the perfect backdrops to accompany her stunning purple and blue African print skirt and let’s not forget those to die for Louboutins!

If you love to support small businesses and need a one of a kind skirt for yourself then I encourage you to check out her site!  Like her slogan says “Who wants to look like the other girl?”  Stand out from the crowd and command attention in something tailor made just for you!  And if you’re a business owner looking to upgrade their brand and website with new branding images I’d love to hear from you!  Contact me so we can discuss your vision and bring it to life together.

Iyahna C. – Fort Mill, SC Senior Portraits

I love shooting senior sessions.  It’s the end of a chapter in a young person’s life and the start of wonderful new beginnings.  I’ve been blessed enough to capture a few sessions for the Class of 2016 and I’m so excited to share Iyahna’s downtown Fort Mill, SC session with you all.

First off let me start by saying that Iyahna is my cousin and so I’ve known her all her life.  It’s been amazing to watch her grow into the mature, funny, and kind young lady she is today.  When she and her mom reached out to me for her session Iyahna already had a vision for what she wanted her session to look and feel like.  I gave her a few options and she settled on downtown Fort Mill, SC.  Since she lived in Rock Hill she wanted to do something a little different and downtown Fort Mill is quaint, eclectic and has some great options for backgrounds (hello pink wall!  hello train!).  We started her session out with a more formal look as we walked up and down the small sidewalks, stopping at the occasional perfect location to get the best shots before moving into her cap and gown photos and finally finishing with a more casual look.

During part of her session our cousin Kayla, who I’ve also had the pleasure of shooting for her senior session, got in on the action and we did a few fun shots of the two of them.

I love being a part of milestone memories for my clients and when we all have a great time making those memories it’s even better.  Lots and lots of smiles, laughs, and even some tears (it’s definitely a sentimental moment for any mom watching her child grow up) were shed that day and I’m just ever so thankful to have been able to be a part of it all.  To book your upcoming senior portrait session contact me so we can discuss the details!

You Glow Girl: Your Best Skin Yet!

Ok, so the title is kind of cheesy, but just go with it for entertainment’s sake.  This week’s post is a little different from my standard session blog posts. Every once in a while I like blog about things I’m into, vacations I take, etc. Well one thing I’m very passionate about is healthy, glowing skin. I often get told that I have nice skin and people wondering what my regimen is. I never thought I did anything particularly interesting enough to share with others, but the more I was asked the more I felt like it couldn’t hurt to let people in on my secret. Of course what works for me may not work for you, but it’s always worth a try.  And since we’re officially into the summer season it’s important for my clients to have healthy skin so that they can look their best during their sessions.

I will say that even though I love trying out new products for my skin I’m not big on spending a lot of money for those products. You won’t find me in a high end department store spending $60 for a facial moisturizer. And while I do have brand loyalty to some things, I’m always up for trying out something new.

1. My Facial Routine

I don’t wash my face with soap. I’m sure some of you shrieked at just the thought of that. But I don’t. There’s just my washcloth, water and me. I used to use different facial washes and while they didn’t harm my skin I didn’t feel like they necessarily helped it either. If anything it may have dried my combination skin out a little more than I liked. So about 6 years ago I made the decision to no longer use any sort of soap on my face. I do, however, use a homemade facial scrub. One part brown sugar, one part honey. I keep it in a small container in my shower and the steam from the water helps to liquefy it a bit so that it’s not as rough on my skin as a traditional scrub might be. I used to this scrub daily, but am down to just 2-3 days per week now.

After drying off my next step is a facial moisturizer. I’m not brand loyal so I typically buy what’s cheap or on sale. Often times that’s the store brand and my skin loves it so why purchase another moisturizer with a higher dollar amount? After making sure to have enough for an even layer over my face and neck (don’t leave that out!) I finish up with an eye cream. Ladies of a certain age (30 and up) need to be proactive when it comes to things like bags under our eyes and wrinkles so to stop it before it even begins I started adding eye cream to my regimen after turning 36.

2. My Body Routine

Let me preface this by saying that I know I use a lot of products in the shower. I am fully aware of that fact. But I can’t stand dry, ashy skin. It’s my kryptonite.   Once or twice a week or for a special occasion I like to use a body scrub like the one shown below found at Walmart.  I’m partial to Bath + Body Works Aromatherapy Sugar Scrubs, but when I’m not in the mood to dish out $16 I opt for something a little more inexpensive.  So after scrubbing myself down and lathering up with body wash (I’m in love with Olay 2-in-1 Essential Oil Ribbons) I move on to an in shower lotion from Nivea. On days where I don’t have a lot of time to put on lotion this is a perfect quick fix. I get the dry skin version because like I said, I hate dry skin. After rinsing off the in shower lotion I finish up with body oil gel. This keeps my skin supple and smooth. And it also adds an extra layer of moisture. Monday through Friday this is where my regimen stops, but on special occasions I will add extra lotion (any variety of cocoa butter will do) just because it makes me feel better about my life.

New Boutique Packaging Is Here!

New Boutique Packaging Is Here!

There have been some changes happening over at DBP for the last few months with the main change being updated, more current packaging.  I knew last year that I eventually wanted to make the switch from delivering client images on CDs to USBs.  But before making the leap I first needed to see what was out there in terms of USB types.  I wanted to find a style that fit with my brand and also reflected who I am as a person.  USB drives are not cheap and therefore this wasn’t something I wanted to enter into lightly.  Sure I could try out a few different USB styles, but that would only confuse my clients.  I’ve come to learn that in this business consistent branding is everything so I take that very seriously.

After attending a workshop with other photographers earlier this year I received some information on a company called Photo Flash Drive.  I had come across their site previously when first beginning my search for the perfect USB, but never went too in depth with it.  Another photographer at the workshop used their USBs and spoke highly of them so I figured I would check them out.  I found a few styles that I liked, but the minute I saw this wine cork USB I fell in love.  It’s no secret that I am a HUGE lover of wine.  One of my favorite things to do is vineyard hopping and trying out new wines so this was perfect for me!  It’s something that’s unique and sets me apart from other photographers and still adds a bit of whimsy to my brand.

I hope you, the client, loves receiving this updated packaging from DBP.  I worked hard to put this all together into a cohesive package that I hope my clients appreciate.  Everything I do is with my client in mind and this is no different.  Be on the lookout for these hitting your mailboxes soon!

The Nichols Family | Rock Hill, SC

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting the Nichols family for their first family session in quite a while.  Mom, Sonya, reached out to me after seeing her sister’s photos and loving them.  We spoke a few times regarding her session and she definitely wanted to do them at Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC.  It’s where her sister’s photos were taken and she thought the park was absolutely gorgeous!  We met early on a Saturday morning and Sonya along with her husband and three boys looked immaculate!  They were picture perfect before ever stepping in front of my lens.

Halfway through our session mom and dad stepped away to change into their second look so this time gave me the chance to work with the boys individually.  Older brothers Blake and Gavin were in a slight competition to see which one could model better than the other and baby brother Aiden just wanted to go exploring.  He was a bit under the weather, but towards the end of the session he became more active and with so much going on in the park the last thing he was concerned with was having his photo taken.

We finished the session with just Phillip and Sonya.  The boys went off to play with their aunt he joined us for the latter part of their session and mom, dad and I went off to capture a few romantic photos of just the two of them.  Sonya did not disappoint with look number two, looking chic in a pink tulle skirt and leopard print heels!  And of course Phillip was ever so dapper.  To see the two of them act like newlyweds, especially after 16 years of marriage, was so heartwarming.  The love they share for one another was evident all around.  I wish them many, many blessings as a family and hope they enjoyed their session with DBP as much as I enjoyed working with them.
